Welney Gate (Sluice), Old Bedford/Counterdrain, Welney
Introduction
This single vertical sluice gate on the Old Bedford River about a hundred yards
north of Welney Bridge was built in 1973 by the Great Ouse River Authority (GORA).
It normally operates automatically and is shut just before the Welches Dam pumping
station begins pumping water from the Old Bedford/ Counterdrain into the River Delph.
